The manufacture of salt sandstone is already attested in Alsace in the 15th century. Salt sandstone is a multisecular vitrification technique. When cooking in the flames at 1250 ° C,
salt is sprayed into the oven openings. Blue is the characteristic color of Betschdorf pottery.
It is cobalt oxide, carefully applied to our pottery. This cobalt blue is the only color resistant
to the high temperature of sandstone baking. Salt vitrification produces an
unalterable and impervious shard, making it an excellent preservation pottery.
